Job Description: Tax Resolution Specialist

Job Overview
Our client is a high-growth CPA and advisory firm seeking an experienced Tax Resolution Specialist to join the team. 

In this role, you will serve as the firm’s dedicated expert for tax controversy, collections, and IRS and state resolution matters. You will directly manage a remote caseload, analyze complex tax liabilities, and develop tailored strategies to advocate effectively for our individual and business clients.
Job Opportunities

  • Client Representation: Represent individual and business entity clients directly before the IRS and state taxing authorities.
  • Case Negotiation: Negotiate Offers in Compromise (OICs), installment agreements, and penalty abatements.
  • Compliance and Disclosures: Handle complex federal and state voluntary disclosure matters.
  • Strategic Advisory: Analyze tax liabilities and advise clients on options, timelines, and financial risks with clarity.
  • Controversy Management: Navigate Collection Due Process (CDP) hearings, trust fund recovery penalties, and general collection procedures.
  • Internal Collaboration: Partner with the firm’s compliance and tax planning teams to deliver holistic client service.
  • Regulatory Monitoring: Stay current on IRS collections procedures, CSED rules, and evolving state tax requirements.

Qualifications
Required

  • Credentials: Active Enrolled Agent (EA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or Juris Doctor (JD) license required for IRS representation.
  • Experience: 5 to 10+ years of dedicated experience in tax resolution, controversy, or collections.
  • Technical Knowledge: Deep working knowledge of the IRS collections process, IRM procedures, and CSED calculations.
  • Entity Exposure: Proven experience representing both individual (Form 1040) and entity (Forms 1120, 1065, etc.) clients.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex issues to stressed clients.
  • Case Management: Highly organized and self-directed; capable of managing a remote caseload with minimal oversight. [1, 2]

Preferred

  • Multi-state resolution and state-level voluntary disclosure program experience.
  • Professional background working within a CPA firm, tax advisory, or boutique resolution practice.
  • Familiarity with ProSeries tax software. [1]
