Key Responsibilities
- Grant & Contract Management: Oversee accounting for grants and government contracts, including DCAA compliance (pre- and post-award) and segregation of direct/indirect costs.
- System Implementation: Map out client needs, select appropriate accounting systems, and lead the full-cycle implementation and setup.
- Revenue Recognition: Apply ASC 606 and ASC 842 standards, specifically managing revenue recognition based on grant documents, funder restrictions, and milestones.
- Financial Oversight: Oversee monthly and yearly closes, consolidate financial statements, and review high-risk accounts including unrealized gains/losses and equity reconciliations.
- Team Leadership: Manage accountants and processes for multiple clients, providing coaching to junior staff and ensuring delivery excellence.
- Strategic Advisory: Translate complex accounting topics into actionable data for founders and establish yourself as a “Trusted Partner.”
Qualifications/Requirements
- Experience: 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, specifically within a Grant Controller or similar capacity.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Technical Mastery: Deep understanding of GAAP, grant compliance, and DCAA standards. Familiarity with equity accounting (Stock, Convertible Notes) is essential.

- Bonus: CPA or CMA certification is a significant plus.

- Remote-First Culture: Work from your home office or anywhere in the US.
- Health & Wellness: Comprehensive Medical, Dental, and Vision (including dependents), plus Disability Insurance.
