This role exists to lead the effective and timely delivery of tax services to clients across the U.S., ensuring operational excellence and technical precision. As leader of the tax department, the Tax Manager is responsible for overseeing team performance, managing tax workflows, refining department processes, and ensuring exceptional client outcomes. Without this role, Cerebral Tax Advisors would face challenges in maintaining compliance standards, optimizing resource allocation, and delivering strategic tax solutions at scale.

Operational Leadership

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the tax department, ensuring efficient workflows and seamless service delivery.
  • Eliminate operational bottlenecks and implement strategies to boost departmental productivity.
  • Collaborate with firm leadership to align tax department strategies with organizational goals.

Team Management & Development

  • Supervise and coach tax professionals to ensure high performance, professional growth, and engagement.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews, provide actionable feedback, and foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Manage resource allocation and staff scheduling to meet client needs and regulatory deadlines.

Tax Compliance & Technical Oversight

  • Review and manage the preparation of individual, business, and trust tax returns, including multi-state filings (Forms 1065, 1120S, 1120, 1040, etc.).
  • Lead technical tax efforts including research, projections, and responding to IRS/state notices.
  • Ensure the team maintains compliance with federal, state, and local tax requirements.

Process Improvement

  • Continuously refine tax workflows to enhance accuracy, turnaround times, and operational consistency.
  • Recommend and implement process improvements that align with EOS principles and departmental scorecard targets.
  • Support the adoption of technology to streamline processes and improve client experience.

Client Service & Communication

  • Maintain strong relationships with clients by ensuring timely, clear, and strategic communication.
  • Oversee client onboarding within the tax department and uphold high standards of service quality.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with other departments to support firm-wide initiatives and client deliverables.

  
Qualifications

  • 7+ years in tax preparation and accounting, with 3+ years of supervisory or management experience in public accounting.
  • CPA or EA certification preferred.
  • Master’s degree in Accounting or related field preferred.
  • Strong command of U.S. federal, state, and local tax laws and procedures.
  • High proficiency in UltraTax CS, QuickBooks Online, and cloud-based work environments.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills with a proven ability to guide a team to high performance.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Experience with tax strategies for medical professionals is a plus.
  • Exposure to or experience with the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) is a plus
